Hedgestock whaaaa?

So last time I was in San Francisco, eating at my favorite taqueria near the Castro, I happened into Aardvark Books next door and picked up a copy of David Brooks' Bobos in Paradise: The New Upper Class and How they Got there.

It really seems to me that there is going to have to be more historical work done on the changing patterns of class, caste, status, consumption, and privilege across the 20th century in order to understand how the cultural politics of race relations in both the domestic U.S. "1960s" and the international decolonization efforts (under which category I would include the Vietnam War) have been manipulated toward a world trade that only marginally rationalizes the importance of order over chaos but uses the emotionally provocative languages of stability, security, and safety without full human rights for ALL of life.
